Professional Musicians Visit WRS!!

Vermont Symphony Orchestra to present to WRS K-2nd gr.:

On Monday, November 24th at 1:00pm Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade students will get to see a program presented by the Fiddlesticks String Trio from the Vermont Symphony Orchestra.  In music class we have been talking about being an audience member, like in a movie theater.  Feel free to check out http://www.vso.org/education-musicians-in-the-schools.php for more information about the VSO’s outreach programs, including a couple of videos with other VSO groups.  Or, visit Ms. Ott’s website https://sites.google.com/a/rcsu.org/ottmusic/ and check out some YouTube videos of string trios and other instruments by clicking “Musical Instruments” on the left.

Downtown Brass Co. to present and DONATE INSTRUMENTS to WRS:

On Wednesday, December 3rd at 1:45pm the Downtown Brass Co. brass quartet will come and present to 3rd-6th gr. students, as well as donate brass instruments to the WRS band program.  This is a great opportunity for some of our 4th graders to upgrade to better instruments, as well as for some new students to get involved in the band!  It’s not too late to join!  Here’s what the group has to say about their program:

"Play it Forward provides musical instruments to local schools that can be loaned at no cost to students who would not be able participate in their school instrumental program because of an inability to obtain or rent an instrument and the school has insufficient inventory to meet their needs. We believe that an interested student, lacking access to the instrumental music program by circumstance, will miss out on everything that we had and have. When we donate an instrument, we give someone an opportunity that may otherwise pass them by."
